lyrics

The Quay

Verse 1
That cold old wind is blowing from the sea
and the boats are all anchored by the quay
And that cold sister sun is glowing very low
and my mind is sailing free away from me
Verse 2
Many times I came here as a boy
Not knowing any pain or joy
Hypnotised by the whirling of the water
Mysteries in my mind to ask my father
Verse 3
Years went past, seemed so fast, I was a man at last
Mysteries like a giant net were cast
To surface in my mind, the wonder of the find
Innocence in the deep was left behind
Verse 4
Met her on a hot summer’s night
We grew to want each other wrong or right
Thought our love as deep as the ocean
Not really having any notion
But sharing pain and joy and emotion
Verse 5
Time went by we took from each other
Drifting on a boat without a rudder
Love disappeared from sight
(We) had to part and do what’s right
Went our ways like ships in the night
