Just a kid from the swampland and at a tender age
Saw a movie ‘bout Elvis, he wanna sing on the stage
Played guitar with his Daddy, Uncle Joe and Old Boone
At the river at night, by the light of the moon.
Verse 2
Uncle Joe on accordion, breathing notes in the air
Old Boone, drinkin’ whiskey, keeping beat on a chair,
On a boat on the river ‘til he reach New Orleans
Thirty bucks in his pocket and a fistful of dreams.

Played all the wrong bars, where the bums hang around

Pat Burgess is an Irish singer/songwriter from Leixlip, Co. Kildare. Born in Raheny, Dublin in 1956, he has been actively involved with music for the past 45 years. Lead singer/founder member of the Irish Americana group “The Rye River Band” for 35 years they have recorded 2 albums, 1 EP and 2 singles with the band, one a charity single (Dublin Simon).
