Eleanor’s House
La Da Da Dum La Da Da Dum La Da Da Dum Dum DadUm Dum
Verse 1
It was 1967, a summer full of song
(I’m) a youngster of eleven sitting on a shed
Eleanor by my side, the Beach Boys on the “waves”
I thought I was in heaven on that balmy July day, balmy July day
Verse 2
On the far side of the city in that summertime of light
Two lovers shared a promise that endured like solid wood
To build a life and home as well of rhythm rock and blues
Louise and Pat’s unbroken bond, a joinery of love, a joinery of love
La Da Da Dum La Da Da Dum La Da Da Dum Dum DadUm Dum
Verse 3
The Flowers of San Francisco a distant song of peace
Scott McKenzie’s invite to a California dream
That wrote a memory for this kid to capture for all time
Remind him why he plays guitar that echoes down the line, echoes down the line
Verse 4
In New York’s Greenwich Village, to Tin Pan Denmark St.
Dublin’s Club A-Go-Go, (to) Harvard’s Club Passim
They sang the tunes to stamp the time before the bitter end
A long black veil the world drew down to hide the face of change, hide the face of change
La Da Da Dum La Da Da Dum La Da Da Dum Dum DadUm Dum
Reprise
The radio remembers, reminds me yes it does
I’m a youngster of eleven still sitting on a shed
Eleanor by my side, the Beach Boys on the “waves”
I thought I was in heaven on that balmy July day, balmy July day, balmy July Day.

A Little Bit of Rhyme

A Little Bit Of Rhyme
Verse 1
Guitar chords are all you need to give the key and start the beat
Then the band begins to play, it’s time to take the floor
Pretty girls get off your chair, take the boards, let down your hair
‘Cause all the boys they wanna jive, it’s time to dance tonight
Chorus
I just need a chorus line, little bit of rhythm, little bit of rhyme
Hey, won’t you come and sing with us and dance the night away
Verse 2
The time apart and distance steal a chance of simple love
I’ll close my eyes to see your face and sing this song for you
And hope the moment fills the room with warm romantic thoughts
And starts a feeling, we still hold, in other people’s hearts
Chorus
Dance the night away, Dance the night away
Dance the night away hey hey.
Verse 3
Keep the music going strong we can play it all night long
Feel the rhythm, here the rhyme, let the drums beat time
The sun is up, the night is gone, we can play just one more song
Another show, another town, it’s time for movin’ on
Chorus

The Ballad of Old Boone
Verse 1
Just a kid from the swampland and at a tender age
Saw a movie ‘bout Elvis, he wanna sing on the stage
Played guitar with his Daddy, Uncle Joe and Old Boone
At the river at night, by the light of the moon.
Verse 2
Uncle Joe on accordion, breathing notes in the air
Old Boone, drinkin’ whiskey, keeping beat on a chair,
On a boat on the river ‘til he reach New Orleans
Thirty bucks in his pocket and a fistful of dreams.
Chorus
If you’re coming’ home, make it soon,
And you’re feeling lonely, reach for the Moon.
Verse 3
Played all the wrong bars, where the bums hang around
He’s playing his guitar, singing over the sound
No one was listening, he was hurting inside,
Drink was the healer, it softened the slide
Verse 4
Wet night in the city, the rain comin’ down
Some kid in the gutter he hardly makin’ a sound
A shadow approaches, an old man bends down,
Whispers, “get up boy, we’re leavin’ this town”.
Chorus
Verse 5
Behind a dark cloud the moon shines it’s light,
He’s under the spotlight, yellow and bright,
He raises his fingers, encircles the moon,
Time to go home now, whispers old Boone .

The Quay

The Quay
Verse 1
That cold old wind is blowing from the sea
and the boats are all anchored by the quay
And that cold sister sun is glowing very low
and my mind is sailing free away from me
Verse 2
Many times I came here as a boy
Not knowing any pain or joy
Hypnotised by the whirling of the water
Mysteries in my mind to ask my father
Verse 3
Years went past, seemed so fast, I was a man at last
Mysteries like a giant net were cast
To surface in my mind, the wonder of the find
Innocence in the deep was left behind
Verse 4
Met her on a hot summer’s night
We grew to want each other wrong or right
Thought our love as deep as the ocean
Not really having any notion
But sharing pain and joy and emotion
Verse 5
Time went by we took from each other
Drifting on a boat without a rudder
Love disappeared from sight
(We) had to part and do what’s right
Went our ways like ships in the night

Sunday Evening

Sunday Evening
Verse1
On a warm summer’s evening at the end of a perfect day
There’s a haze on the city right across the bay
You might be driving home or you might be on a train
But it’s Sunday Evening and getting ready to start again
Verse 2
Thinking about the week that’s passed to take everything in
Monday morning around the bend, how are you gonna begin
To start and set all the wrong things right, take stock of what’s done
But it’s Sunday Evening , getting ready to start again, ready to start again
Chorus
Yes it’s Sunday Evening and it’s time to turn a page
It’s not too late to play your part and stand on the stage
Verse 3
Do you ever feel that life goes by so fast like a merry-go-around
That there isn’t time to make amends or turn over new ground
To break the mould, to change the shape, to play another tune
But it’s Sunday Evening you’re getting ready to start again
Verse 4
There may have been words that should have been said, there may be some that should not
There may have been things that should have been done; there may be some you forgot
So put the past behind you , forget all your troubles today
Because it’s Sunday Evening and you’re ready to start again, ready to start again
Chorus
Yes it’s Sunday Evening and it’s time to turn a page
It’s not too late to play your part and stand on the stage
And stand on the stage and stand on the stage

A Borrowed Mandolin
03:01
|
|||
A Borrowed Mandolin
There’s a place at the edge of the world where Time left a boy and a girl.
Alone to try and figure it out, find a map to tomorrow.
There are pages in the Book of Love torn apart by sorrow
Then bound again by two young hearts with a hard road to follow.
(To) lose your guiding light just once would be the saddest wrong
Taken twice defies all ways for a young soul to belong
Unless the ones who gave them life and courage to go on
Heal the time for hope and make their spirits grow strong
A loving shout to find his son,
Answered "What" from another room
Rhyming lines while hanging clothes
Then written down in her Book of Love.
In this house she sits with brushes and on her knee a finished painting
(Of ) a soldier boy with big blue wings, in his hands a mandolin.
There's a place at the edge of the world where Time left a boy and a girl.
Alone to try and figure it out, find a map to tomorrow
There are pages in the Book of Love torn apart by sorrow
Then bound again by two young hearts with a hard road to follow,
A hard road to follow, a hard road to follow.

Bealach Pháraic (Páraic’s Way) /Ceilí
How to put an image into words, how to write a feeling on a page
How to sing I’m longing, to be on a boreen (bóthairín) to the sea
Raise me up and bring me there, to walls of stone and flowers so rare
To feel the wind and hear the sea, and lock away these memories
Take the bike down from the train and pedal west through Galway rain
To Bearna, Furbó, Spiddal go, by Inverin to Carraroe
Where Poet’s ramblings and Artist visions were inspired
Raise me up and bring me there, to walls of stone and flowers so rare
To feel the wind and hear the sea, and lock away these memories
Where time is still and silence be
Across the bay, embracing me
Smoke and peat burn back the years, to melting summers on the pier
Ag súil le chéile, go dtí an Céilí, a haon, dó, trí

Love to you
Verse 1
I wanna know if you still love me , I wanna know for sure,
I wanna know will it always be “toujours l’amour”,
I wanna know if the rain stops fallin’, will the river run dry,
Or will the rose at the end of summer really die.
Chorus
Will you take me down to the Bayou of Love, where the water talks to the clouds above,
Magnolias fill the air and ooh!, I’ll make sweet love to you.
2nd Verse
I wanna know if you still need me, or is it time to go,
I wanna watch the roses growin’ and the river in flow,
I wonder if the music played, would we sing in harmony,
Or dance to Cajun rhythms, you and me.
Chorus
Will you take me down to the Bayou of Love, where the water talks to the clouds above,
Magnolias fill the air and ooh!, I’ll make sweet love to you.
Take me down to the Bayou of Love, where the water talks to the clouds above,
Magnolias fill the air and ooh!, I’ll make sweet love to you
Yes I’ll make sweet love to you, Yes I’ll make sweet love to you
Oh I’ll make sweet love to you.

Verse 1
Lady Fair my pretty girl, slip your hand in mine
Walk away from all those things you’ve tried so hard to find
The maze of life might get you down but love has come in time
Chorus
And I’ll love you in the morning, I’ll love you in the night
I’ll love you in the evening, I’ll love you, love you right
Verse 2
Lady Fair my gypsy pearl, dark haired beauty queen
All my life I’ve searched for this and now it’s not a dream
Your kindness warms my very soul, you’re everything you seem
Chorus
And I’ll love you in the morning, I’ll love you in the night
I’ll love you in the evening, I’ll love you, love you right

Years End

|

Year’s End
Verse 1
Driving in a blizzard to a venue way out there
New Years Eve and freezing on a road to God knows where
Thinking of the year just passed, the lows and the highs
Like milestones on a journey on a cold winter’s night
Verse 2
After three hours of driving we were setting up the gear
And passing round the brandy – glad we were here
(And) a long way from home I was hoping all was well
Raised my glass to mobile phones and Alexander Bell
Chorus
So gather round together and sing “Auld Lang Syne”
Don’t forget old acquaintances with the passing of time
And raise your thoughts to all who’ve gone, all you’ve yet to meet
At the end of December and a New Year to greet
Verse 3
With all the crowd together we rang the New Year in
And I rang my folks just to do the same with them
To find out that he wasn’t there, would never be again
He was on his way to celebrate a life (with his old friends)
Chorus
Verse 4
We sang the National Anthem to a rumble on the floor
Then all the crowd applauded, soon headed for the doors
In the early hours still awake and the boys down below
I heard life ring the changes through the silent falling snow

Bridget Mulligan

Bridget Mulligan ***
Verse 1
Now Bridget Mulligan used to live in a tenement top back room
In an old respectable neighbourhood they chased her to the Coombe
She sold fresh herrings on Fridays and on every Saturday night
She’d have you with the fish board just to show that she could fight
One day she found a ten bob note the joy it made her weep
She thought she’d chance her luck and bought a ticket and won the sweep
Chorus
Now she powders her face and wears a gold “terrara” on her head
They say she wears pyjamas and has feathers in her bed
She used to be the “Pride of the Coombe” but be the tearin’ hound
Bridget Mulligan’s one of the quality now with the thirty thousand pounds
Verse 2
She never could write but she makes her mark that whenever she signs a cheque
To the neighbours old she used to know she doesn’t give a wreck
She’s changed her talk entirely now she’s quite the la-di-dah
She calls her father Pater and her oul one her Mama
And when she sighs she says “Oh dear it is a beastly fag”
And forgets the time she used to beg for a squeeze of the old blue bag
Chorus
Verse 3
She’s got a lovely motor car all covered in paint and plush
With a family crest upon the door, a wrap, a bucket and brush
And a lad in a peeky cap she calls a “shover” to drive her around
He wraps her in a skunky rug that cost a hundred pounds
She got a fellow to lift her face at fifty quid says he,
“Be dads” says she “you can drop it again you wont get that from me”
Chorus
